Insurance coverage
Insurance is not automatic for every stone in every situation. Cover applies only to a specific approved custody or transit arrangement, is subject to the terms of the underwriter and SOSNA Trade Desk, and the exact scope is confirmed in writing before each trade, movement or storage step.
How cover is established
- 1. SOSNA Trade Desk reviews the lot, the requested arrangement (custody / transit / lab) and the declared value.
- 2. The underwriter or specie provider confirms whether and on what terms the arrangement can be covered.
- 3. Before the step begins, a written confirmation of scope is issued for that specific lot and that specific step.
- 4. Without that confirmation, the step is not treated as insured.
Approved vault custody
When a lot is placed in a SOSNA-approved vault under a written custody instruction, specie insurance can be arranged for the agreed declared value. Coverage is confirmed in writing before the lot enters custody.
Sanctioned transit
Movements between approved locations using vetted bonded couriers or hand-carry agents may be covered door-to-door. Each movement requires a pre-approved routing and a confirmation of cover for that specific leg.
Authentication handling
Time spent at independent laboratories for verification can be included in the cover, subject to the laboratory being on the approved list and the handover being logged through SOSNA Trade Desk.
Documented chain
Every insured step is logged in the provenance ledger with timestamped custody hand-offs, so the scope and limits of cover are traceable per lot and per movement.
What insurance does not cover
- • Lots that are not in approved SOSNA custody or approved SOSNA transit.
- • Any movement, handling or storage without a prior written confirmation of cover.
- • Movements outside SOSNA-approved routes, partners and laboratories.
- • Market price decline, illiquidity of any lot, or subsequent re-grading by laboratories.
- • Any promise of return, appreciation or investment outcome.
Final scope, limits, deductibles and exclusions are governed by the terms of the relevant insurance policy and by the confirmation issued by SOSNA Trade Desk for that specific lot and that specific step.
